What was the Meta AI Hackathon?
It was the OpenEnv AI Hackathon, built around OpenEnv, an open-source framework from Meta and Hugging Face for creating reinforcement-learning environments that train AI agents. It came to India after a San Francisco edition.
Important for accuracy: it was organized by Scaler School of Technology in collaboration with Meta, PyTorch and Hugging Face. It was Meta-backed, not run directly by Meta. Projects were judged by Meta's team, with mentorship from Meta engineers at the finale.
Eligibility
It was open to developers, ML engineers and computer-science students in India. No prior reinforcement-learning experience was required, and free prep courses from Hugging Face and PyTorch were provided. Round 1 was solo or a team of up to three, and registration was free.
Dates and format
Registration opened on 14 March 2026 and closed on 5 April 2026. Round 1, an online build of a mini RL environment, ran from 25 March to 12 April 2026. The grand finale was a 48-hour in-person event at the SST campus in Bengaluru on 25 and 26 April 2026. The event has concluded.
Prize money
The total prize pool was $30,000, plus interview opportunities with the AI teams at Meta and Hugging Face. Published tiers included $2,000 each for 4th to 8th place and $650 each for 9th to 15th place, with a $10,000 figure among the top three. The exact first, second and third place split was not clearly published, so we do not state a precise top prize.
Winners
An official winners list was not published on a public page we could verify. We will add the winners here if Scaler or Meta release them. We do not publish unverified names.
Do not confuse it with
The Llama Hackathon India (a separate Reskilll and Meta event in Bengaluru) and Meta's university hackathon at its US headquarters are different events. The high-volume India searches point specifically to the OpenEnv hackathon organized by Scaler.
